Otiko Afisa Djaba[/caption] The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba has called on former President John Mahama to rather apologize to the people of the three northern regions for his failure to implement the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) successfully. The minister says the people in the north wanted the government to improve their standard of living with SADA but he failed and that calls for an apology to the people of Ghana, especially those in the north. The Gender Minister has rebuffed calls on her to apologise to former president John Mahama for describing how…
You finally found a guy who’s not just great, but amazing. He’s charming. He’s helpful. He’s a great listener. The moment he came into your life, things instantly improved. Even your mother liked him. Everyone did. For the first few months, everything was magical. The relationship was perfect. Sure, you hit a few minor bumps that seemed like they could be red flags, but you figured everyone has bad days and he would never intend to be such a jerk. Besides, he apologized. Except that lately, you’re the one doing all the apologizing. You don’t always know what you did…

Nanumba-North District Health Director, Stephen Dadia[/caption] The Nanumba-North District Health Directorate is seeking advice from the Northern Regional Health Directorate to close down the Bimbila District Hospital. In the wake of recent deadly clash in the area, and guided by similar incidents previously, a precarious situation has been created for medical staff and general workers. Authorities at the facility say they would have no choice but close down if medical staff are not provided with adequate security both at the hospital and home. The threat follows the abandoning of post by about 50 percent of nurses at the hospital after…
Followers of Ghana’s democratic journey may not stop to be amazed by all the goings-on, in relation to our post-election-transition happenings. How can a country where power transfers smoothly still handle everything with partisan judgement? Even before I proceed, what did you make of the joint appearance of the immediate-past Attorney-General, Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong and the current Attorney-General, Ms Gloria Akuffo at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) in Humburg when they jointly represented Ghana at the arbitration with the Ivory Coast over a land/sea dispute? A nation which is touted as democratically developed in…
File: A recruitment screening exercise for police recruits[/caption] Whenever I see or hear the name ‘Ghana’ appearing in the name of an institution, it reminds me of a true story of a senior at the then Sunyani Secondary School [SUSEC]. This senior in question we were told was a class prefect. For the purpose of this piece, I will name him Jimmy. Most often when class was in session, after 12pm meant that he had closed from school. Surprised? Don’t be surprised yet. Jimmy, the class prefect, marked his [class’] register at the dormitory. “Bismark Apati … by now he…
The World Bank Group has called on the government of Ghana to, as a matter of urgency, tighten its consumer protection standards to promote the health, safety and security of consumers. According to the World Bank Group’s Senior Director of Global Practice on Trade and Competitiveness, Anabel Gonzalez, Ghanaian authorities must dedicate serious attention to clearing the country’s market of fake and substandard goods to safeguard the well-being of citizens. “There is the need for a country to have consumer protection standards and I think this is very relevant to promote the health, safety, security of consumers,” she told the…
Alex Afenyo-Markin[/caption] The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has taken on the MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin for making what may be described as spurious allegations against the university. According to the university, claims by the MP that the university has been acting against some political parties are preposterous. “It is preposterous for the Hon. MP to accuse the University of political partisanship. It has been a policy of Management to make the facility available to citizens for the organization of their programmes either as private individuals or as groups when applications are so submitted to that effect,” the university…
