Parliaments vetting committee would be vetting President Akufo Addo’s nominees on Saturday as part of efforts to expedite the process so the minister designates can get to work as quickly as possible. A 26 man vetting committee has been put in place to begin work on Friday January 20, 2017. The committee will then sit on the Saturday January 21 to continue with the process. Outgoing Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has declared a 90-day state of emergency a day before his official mandate ends, state TV reports. Regional leaders have been unsuccessfully trying to persuade him to hand over power to Adama Barrow, who won December’s elections. The move comes after Nigeria deployed a warship to further pressure Mr Jammeh. Regional bloc Ecowas has prepared a force but maintains that military intervention would be a last resort. His Majesty King Mohammed VI, of the Kingdom of Morocco, will from Wednesday, January 18, 2017, begin an official visit to Ghana. The visit is aimed at deepening the existing, cordial relations between Ghana and Morocco, as well present an opportunity to define new areas of co-operation that would serve the mutual interests of the two countries. A Senior Lecturer at the University of Education Winneba (UEW), Mr Kweku Esia Donkor is calling on teachers at the basic level to intensify education on child trafficking to equip children to report instances of the menace. Over 36 million people are trapped in modern slavery globally with about 190,000 victims in Ghana, according to the Global Slavery Index 2015. Child trafficking is a major child right violation in Africa.
