Case against Begoro chief resolved

The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has settled the case against the Begoro Chief, Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, for endorsing the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.

Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II appeared before the council on Monday, February 19, to explain his actions.

This comes after a petition was filed against him as seen in a letter signed by the secretary of the traditional council, D. M. Ofori-Atta,.

“I forward herewith this writ of summons issued against you by the above-mentioned petitioners from Accra,” portions of the letter read.

The petitioners stated that the Begoro stool name has been brought into disrepute after Nana Owiredu Agyarko made partisan political statements to favor the NDC and their candidate John Mahama.

They were therefore seeking the removal of the Begoro chiefas well as a declaration nullifying the respondent’s conduct, a public recantation of some alleged comments, and the rendering of an unqualified apology to the people of Begoro.

However, lawyer for the chief announced in a media engagement that the council advised the parties involved, noting that the matter shall not be recalled.

He said the traditional council decided to halt the matter after privately engaging the petitioners and the chief.

“We all know what transpired. We came before Nananom for the matter to be heard. The chiefs, upon consultation, decided to step in and bring the matter to an end. They called the parties into chambers and gave them advice. The bottom line is that the case has come to an end, it has been settled; it won’t be called again.”
