Factions loyal to the two feuding Paramount chiefs of Dixcove in the Western region clashed Sunday night throwing the entire twin-community into chaos and uproar.
The Paramount chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Kwesi Agyemang is reported to have been captured from his palace by thugs loyal to the chief of Upper Dixcove to an unknown location, sparking unrest within the paramountcy.
This, terrified residents, said led to indiscriminate detonation of dynamite causing damage to many properties in both Upper and Lower.
Some residents including children, women and the aged have had no sleep as people continue to flee from the communities since midnight
“I am currently hiding at a Hamlet called Site, while many residents including teachers and school children are locked up in their homes under very tensed atmosphere” a resident told Connect FM’s OMANBAPA morning show.
There was no police presence as at 2am though personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were reported to have been there around 1:30am.
There has been tension in the town within the past few months following a dispute between the two chiefs over some boundaries within the two paramouncies of Upper and Lower Dixcove with one village known as Turom being the major boundary under contention.
This has marred the otherwise cordial relationship between the two chiefs, Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX and Obrempong Hima Dekyi XIV of the Lower and Upper Dixcove respectively.
