In a move hailed as a “noble precedent,” Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has stepped up, facilitating a crucial GH₵20,000 medical donation to save a 12-year-old girl desperately needing liver treatment.
This significant intervention, made in collaboration with Citizen Eye Ghana (CITEG), underscores a rare display of leadership prioritizing human life over typical bureaucratic red tape.
The timely donation, earmarked directly for the child’s urgent medical care, was orchestrated following a direct and personal plea to the Chief of Staff.
Alex Tetteh, President of Citizen Eye Ghana, confirmed that Debrah’s response was “swift and wholehearted,” a stark contrast to the usual detached approach of public officials.
Tetteh minced no words in his gratitude, lauding Debrah’s support as “humbling and exemplary.” He highlighted the unprecedented nature of this act, stating, “This is the first time since our formation in 2017 that a sitting public official has contributed to our humanitarian efforts.”
In a powerful statement during the donation ceremony, Tetteh challenged other public officials to emulate Debrah’s example. He decried the rampant self-enrichment prevalent among some politicians, asserting that true leadership is “measured not by luxury or status, but by one’s willingness to uplift the vulnerable.”
“Hon. Julius Debrah has set a noble precedent for leadership, one that focuses on humanity and service, not looting State funds,” Tetteh declared, sending a clear message to the political class.
He further emphasized, “Politicians who support causes like these, who show that they care and are willing to act are the ones who deserve to be given priority during elections.”
Tetteh’s impassioned plea resonated with a public weary of corruption, stressing the need for “a new generation of leaders who choose compassion over corruption and service over self-enrichment.”
Citizen Eye Ghana, a relentless watchdog for accountability, affirmed its commitment to expanding its nationwide outreach to support more patients and announced plans to broaden its prison donation program. This, they stated, is part of their enduring commitment to social justice.
The visibly emotional parents of the young girl expressed profound gratitude, describing the intervention as “life-changing.”
Their heartfelt appreciation echoes a widespread desire for more such partnerships between government and civil society, with Citizen Eye Ghana continuing to solidify its role as a vital force for good in Ghana’s social landscape.
