Renowned educationist Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah has stated that Ghana’s current education system is further pushing the Ghanaian child out of the classroom.
This, the professor, blamed on the politicization of Ghana’s educational system.
Professsor Anamuah-Mensah is of the view that the change in policies by different governments provides a lack of coherence in the system, which in turn affects the Ghanaian child.
“I think it is only when we have all the systems in place, in terms of management, teaching, curriculum, assessment and teaching resources can the Ghanaian child have the best of education.”
He bemoaned the lack of efficiency and effectiveness in the management of Ghana’s education system.
“Whenever there is weak management and supervision, then the child’s faith is in danger. It is important that we have a management system in place that will ensure supervision and monitoring by external agencies”.
According to Professor Anamuah-Mensah, policies should be focused on taking care of the child, and providing an attractive curriculum for excellence.
He further emphasized the need to come up with policies and initiatives that meet current contemporary educational needs.
Professor Anamuah-Mensah was speaking at Media General’s news lecture under the theme ‘Has the current education system served the best interest of the Ghanaian child?’ as Ghana marks the 15th anniversary of the current education System.
Also present at the lecture was the Chairman of the Ghana Education Service Council, Michael Nsowah, some stakeholders in the educational sector as well as students from Achimota School and St. Thomas Aquinas School.
