Residents and traders at central business district of Takoradi have benefited from a free health screening exercise under the ‘How Well Are You?’ campaign by popular gospel musician and physiotherapist Philipa Baafi.
The exercise, supported by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and the Ministry of Health, saw patrons trooping to the venue as early as 6:00am though it was to start at 8:00am.
Health personnel screened participants for various ailments including diabetes, malaria and hypertension and they dispensed free medical advice and medicines.
There was a live performance from the gospel dynamo too.
Speaking to journalists on the objectives of the programme, Philipa Baafi disclosed that since the core objective of her campaign is to move health screening to the doors of every Ghanaian, there is the need to move to markets, for instance, where the bulk of the people congregate.
She further revealed that, the ‘How Well Are You?’ campaign seeks to address the health needs of women, who form 70 per cent of the workforce in the informal sector.
A General Manager at Ghana National Petroleum Corporation in charge of sustainability, Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, also added that his outfit is supporting the musician to do this in the Western Region which forms part of their responsibility to the oil city.
Kwesimintsim market witnessed a massive turnout as several residents received free health screening, medical advice, free medicine and massage from health personnel present.
Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Joe Mensah commended the organizers for the gesture, which he said will go a long way to support government’s efforts of bringing healthcare to the doorsteps of the people.
