President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says he is confident that “the best days of Ghana lie ahead of us”.
He said the transformation of the Ghanaian economy – after a careful assessment of it by his government – from a raw material-producing and exporting one to a value added and industrialised one will “serve better our needs”.
President Akufo-Addo made this known on Sunday at the National Thanksgiving Service to commemorate the advent of the Fourth Republic.
The event saw in attendance all the living former presidents of the Republic.
They even read the scriptures before the sermon.

Delivering the main address, President Akufo-Addo said the “constant” goal of his administration is to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people “on conditions of peace, security and solidarity”.
“We can hope for a brighter future because we are blessed with enormous wealth and human potentials,” he told the gathering, which included members of the clergy and political party leaders.
Credit for ‘ordinary’ Ghanaians
Though acknowledging the political party players especially the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and religious activists in ushering in the current republic, the president said credit must go to the Ghanaian.
“But today’s celebration of our role is to the great credit of the Ghanaian people, the ordinary men and women who make up the fabric of the Ghanaian nation.”
He said they resolved to embrace a new dispensation in peace and reconciliation to berth the Fourth Republic.
He said that started it all and “together we are laying the platform for the evolution of a new Ghanaian civilisation which will give true meaning to the foundational values of freedom and justice on which our nation was conceived.
“Long live the Fourth Republic. Long may it flourish.”
