Nominee for the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, says he would to set up credible institutions and culture as machinery to check corruption in the country if approved by parliament.
Mr amidu, who was a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice was answering questions from members of the appointments committee of Parliament Tuesday at his vetting for the position.
The nominee said a thief fears a credible and experienced investigator and that is what he brings to the table, with years of fighting graft and corruption even in a private capacity.
“I’ve demonstrated it before and I’ll make sure that I’m above suspicion; that is the only way we can eradicate corruption. Thieves fear experienced, tested and credible investigators. They know they cannot influence. That’s the way to deal with crime,” Mr. Amidu assured.

He admitted that he will need people with unquestionable character to work with and he named civil society as one body he will use in the vetting of staff for the office.
He dared members in the room not to approve his nomination if they had issues to hide or misdemeanors, as he promised to come after them.
Mr amidu looked relaxed and comfortable in front of the committee.
He delivered with charisma and detail and got the committee laughing when he intimated such details, even of his birth including where he was conceived and born.
