The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is set to revolutionize the working conditions of fuel tanker drivers with a groundbreaking policy in the works to standardize their compensation.
Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., the Chief Executive of the NPA, unveiled plans for this transformative initiative, aiming to secure approval from the forthcoming Governing Board of the Authority.
Addressing a gathering of gas tanker drivers at the Quantum Terminals in Anokyi, Mr. Tameklo’s announcement was met with resounding applause and beaming faces from the drivers.
Emphasizing that the NPA draws allowances for tanker drivers from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) to maintain pricing consistency nationwide, Mr. Tameklo stressed the importance of providing better compensation to the drivers for the well-being of their families. This, he believes, will deter diversions and ensure the safe transport of petroleum products.
Reacting to the news, Mr. Kwame Mensah, Local Vice Chairman of the LPG Tanker Drivers Association, welcomed the proposed draft policy as a long-awaited positive development that would elevate the working conditions and livelihoods of fuel tanker drivers.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the drivers, Mr. Mensah commended the NPA for the initiative aimed at enhancing their welfare.
Previously, Mr. Tameklo toured the Atuabo Gas processing plant and the Gas Complex to acquaint himself with their operations and engage with key industry stakeholders.
During separate meetings with the Western and Central Regional Security Councils, Mr. Tameklo emphasized the importance of a coordinated effort among security agencies to combat illicit fuel smuggling, particularly to illegal mining (galamsey) sites.
Highlighting the role of smuggled fuel in powering destructive galamsey operations, Mr. Tameklo outlined the necessity of cutting off this fuel supply to combat the alarming practice and bolster President John Dramani Mahama’s anti-galamsey campaign.
In his regional visits, Mr. Tameklo paid courtesy calls on the Omanhen of the Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, in the Western Region, and the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, in the Central Region, accompanied by select members of the NPA executive management team.
