Experiences of most events are easily forgotten but not in the case of SIC Ladies Association’s 40th anniversary celebration dinner and dance party which went down last Saturday at the Police Social and Fitness Centre in Accra.

It was a night of musical explosion characterized by exciting dance moves as various artistes put up exhilarating performances to hook up dancers permanently unto the dancing floor.

The sweet aroma of delicious meals and varieties of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages was everywhere in excess begging for attention yet nobody seemed to care.

But what caught the attention and thrilled every Tom, Dick and Harry present at the event was the unique performance put up by the Ghanaian highlife legend Pat Thomas when the dancing floor was opened.

Pat Thomas, known for his ingenuity and versatility on stage, released series of melodious local highlife tunes, which kept the entire atmosphere fully charged.

Nothing on earth could prevent the ladies, leaders and their guests present from moving their dancing feet to the soothing rhythm emanating from the Y2K Band being controlled by the maestro as they could not sit or stand but were completely lost in the spirit of great joy and satisfaction.

The dinner and dance party, which climaxed the week-long activities lined up in commemoration of SICLA, saw presentation of awards to the past executive members of the association whose initiatives made it possible for its existence since inception 40 years ago.

Addressing the gathering, the President of the SICLA, Bernice Boachie, touted the achievements of the past executives, saying “it has kept us going despite the challenges we are confronted with”.

According to her, the existence of SICLA today can be attributed to the legacy left behind by her predecessors.

“They taught us how we should conduct ourselves as women in the corporate environment and to always respect and protect our organization. In addition, we have the art of giving and always come to the aid of those who are in need.”

Bernice Boachie took over the baton of leadership from her predecessors as the newly-elected President of SICLA barely six months ago.

Through dedication, hardwork and commitment with support from her colleagues, Ms Boachie has managed to change the face of the association from a less vibrant to an active one through application of right leadership measures.

Her vision for the growth of the association is to help put SIC Insurance Company first in everything, renewing the trust of the company in clients and offering excellence in customer service and helping re-orient the SIC brand to the general public.

Speaking in an interview, Ms Boachie disclosed she intends to inject some zest into the association in the coming days by organizing hosts of programmes including happy hours, female health issue educational programs, vacation trips both within and outside the country.

One of  such measures she intends to put in place that would position SICLA to become one of the best humanitarian associations within the corporate level is to see membership dues increased to an appreciable level to allow it accumulate enough funds to enable it reach out to deprived communities as well as help procure a bus for the association.

Present among the dignitaries who graced the event were some top management team of SIC Insurance Company and the past SICLA executives including some invited guests.

SIC Ladies Association (SICLA) is the first female association established 40 years ago in the country to foster bonding among women especially ladies within SIC Insurance Company Limited.

With the core mandate to build cohesive relationships among members while promoting the importance and the need for insurance, the association since its inception has donated to various orphanages and hospitals including The Royal Seed Orphanage located at Kasoa in the Central Region of Ghana.
