The National Teaching Council has begun registering prospective candidates to sit for the teacher licensure examination.
It has consequently asked the teacher training institutions to submit names of trainees who have passed their final College of Education examination to the Council for their registration for the licensure examination.
“Institution that fails to abide by this directive may deny their students access in registering for the [exams],” a statement issued by the Council Tuesday said.
Meanwhile, the Council announced fresh candidates will be required to pay 220 cedis to register for the licensure examination while those re-sitting will pay 100 cedis for one re-sit paper.
Government last year introduced the licensure examination to enable qualified teachers to acquire a professional licence to practice.
The first exam was conducted in September last year with 28,757 teachers. 21,287, representing 74 per cent, passed, while 7,432 failed.
