J Initiative (JI), a Non-Governmental Organization working in Ghana to promote the safety and welfare of children and young people and by extension families, together with its partners has marked this year’s Safer Internet Day in Ghana. The day was marked by route marches, forums and awareness sessions with school children. The two telecom giants, TIGO and Vodafone with civil society groups and government discussed a number of issues regarding the roles of stakeholders. The chairman for the forum, Nene Nagai Kasa VIII, Chief of Agormeda, who is also the Chairman for the National Child Online Protection Committee lauded the move by the SID2017  partners and urged them to do more for the children and young people of Ghana. The event took place in 5 regions of Ghana – Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta, Brong Ahafo and Northern -, and was sponsored by World Vision International, Ghana, Facebook, Tigo,Vodafone, Media Foundation for West Africa, Department of Children and Open Learning. Collaborators for the event were: Ghana Computer Emergency Response Team, Ghana Technology University, WILDAF Ghana, Ghana Education Service and some media houses. A child protection tutorial dubbed, “Keeping Children Safe Online (KCSO ) toolkit was also launched. JI has been championing Safer Internet Day celebration in Ghana for the past three years. Madam Awo Aidam Amenyah, Executive Director of JI, said the day is celebrated to draw stakeholders attention to their roles in ensuring the Internet space is safe for every child to explore. “We are happy to have the day in Ghana. It goes to concretize our efforts over the years. Having two giants on board means we can speak the same language when it comes to the protection of children and young people in Ghana. The Ghana campaign as usual has been championed by J Initiative,” she stressed. Click here for SAFER INTERNET DAY 2017 CONCEPT NOTE Source: 3news.com | Ghana]]>
