Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has etched his name into the history books after being nominated for the 2025/26 EA SPORTS Premier League Player of the Season award, capping a remarkable campaign that has established him as one of English football’s most exciting attacking talents.
Semenyo has enjoyed a breakout season, recording 16 goals and four assists in 35 Premier League appearances, making him one of the standout attacking performers in the league.
The 16 Premier League goals represent the most ever scored by a Ghanaian player in England’s top flight in a single season — a landmark achievement that underscores the magnitude of his contribution this term.
Semenyo began the season at Bournemouth, contributing 10 goals and three assists in 20 league appearances before a mid-season transfer to Manchester City, where he scored in five of his first eight Premier League games under Pep Guardiola.
In just five Premier League appearances during February alone, he scored three goals and registered one assist — a run of form that earned him his first EA SPORTS Player of the Month award.
The Premier League shortlist also includes Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhães, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, Declan Rice, and Brentford’s Igor Thiago.
Semenyo and Haaland are one of only two clubs to have more than one nominee, with Arsenal providing three candidates in Rice, Gabriel and Raya.
Fans can cast their votes on the official Premier League website until 12:00 BST on Monday, May 18, with those votes combined with expert input to crown the winner.
The award is set to be announced on Saturday, May 23.
Each of the last five Premier League Player of the Season winners played for that season’s eventual champions — a historical pattern that adds further intrigue to Semenyo’s chances, with Manchester City trailing league leaders Arsenal by just two points heading into the final stages of the campaign.
The nomination represents a major milestone in Semenyo’s career and further strengthens his status as one of Ghana’s most influential footballers on the global stage — with the Black Stars faithful hoping the 26-year-old can carry this outstanding club form into the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
