The President of SIC Ladies Association (SICLA), Bernice Boachie, has challenged all corporate organizations, philanthropists, investors and well-meaning individuals in the country to rise up and adopt an orphanage to turn around lives of disadvantaged children in the society.

According to her, the rich people in the country are weak in performance of their corporate social responsibilities especially when it comes to reaching out to unfortunate children in orphanages who are in dire need of support to live a life of dignity.

Ms. Boachie made this known on the sidelines of a SICLA donations to support the inmates of Royal Seed Orphanage at Kasoa in Accra last Friday.

The gesture seeks to relieve the plight of disadvantaged children in the Royal Seed Orphanage. It also formed part of activities to mark the 40th anniversary celebration of SIC Ladies Association (SICLA).

The items valued at total cost of GH¢4,000 include 1 box of babies food, 1 box of diapers, washing soaps, babies and adults clothe, shoes, female pads and sachets of water.

Ms. Boachie, who also doubles as the Business Development Manager of SIC Insurance Company Limited, was extremely touched by the plight of the deprived kids during her visit.

She wondered why the rich people in the country are not doing their bid to reach out to orphanages in country knowing very well about their plight.

Citing the likes of Kwame Despite, Ibrahim Mahama, Kennedy Agyapong and other rich politicians and business tycoons in the country, Ms. Boachie said: “I wonder what exactly the rich do for places like this”.

She revealed SICLA has adopted the Royal Seed Orphanage so that on a quarterly basis, “we would be sending them foodstuffs and also try to help supply them with some basic needs per our individual contributions”.

Ms. Boachie, therefore, dared the “so-called rich men” in the country to emulate their gesture, saying: “I challenge all the rich men and women, corporate Ghana, ambassadors parliamentarians and all investors in the country to pick up an orphanage, adopt it and let’s see your handwork manifest in these orphanage for the better”.

Founder of Royal Seed Orphanage, Naomi Esi Amoah, who received the items on behalf of the orphanage, was grateful for the initiative, pledging the items would be utilized for the intended purpose.

The gesture warranted an award in a form of certificate which was subsequently presented by Ms. Amoah on behalf of the orphanage to SICLA for their kind support.

While commending SICLA for the support, Ms. Amoah used the occasion to appeal to other corporate organizations, philanthropists and well-meaning individuals in the country to emulate the gesture.

Ms. Amoah, who also doubles as the founder of Royal Seed International School, disclosed both the orphanage and the school lack basic amenities making life very difficult for children and her to manage.

“We need help to get electricity fixed in the home, school bus to help convey the kids to and from school on time including building materials to help us address our accommodation problems and above all food for every child in the home.”

Royal Seed Orphanage started operation in 1999 but fully obtained its registration to operate under the laws of Ghana as an orphanage in 2012.

The orphanage currently houses over 120 children who are made up of day-old babies through to 18-year-old children.

With a school facility attached that supports the academic needs of children, the orphanage can boast of providing a quality education to every child. As a result, eight of the children have found placement at the university for higher learning currently pursuing various academic degree courses.

The donation was a contribution from SICLA members who are staff of SIC Insurance Company Limited under Accra Area Office, which comprises branches such as Dansoman, Ring Road Office, Bob Freeman and Accra Mall.
