Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang, a second-year student at Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, has arrived in the United Kingdom to undergo urgent eye surgery after sustaining a serious injury from an accidental gunshot fired by a classmate.
The young student landed in the UK on Saturday, May 10, 2025, accompanied by her brother, who is serving as her caregiver, and Rafik Mahama, the special aide to businessman and philanthropist Mr Ibrahim Mahama. Mr Mahama is fully sponsoring Suzzy’s travel and medical treatment abroad.
Doctors from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and Agarwal Eye Hospital in Accra recommended emergency specialist treatment overseas after assessing the severity of the damage to Suzzy’s eye.
The entire process—from medical arrangements to international travel—was swiftly facilitated through the intervention of Mr Ibrahim Mahama.
In addition, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, played a key role in securing Suzzy’s travel documents.
He coordinated with the Ghana High Commission in the UK to provide Suzzy with consular support, ensuring her comfort and access to top-tier care throughout her stay.
The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Harriet Thompson, also supported the visa process, helping ensure a smooth and timely departure.
In an official statement released on Thursday, May 8, Ablakwa, confirmed the successful acquisition of Suzzy’s visa and detailed the collaborative efforts that enabled her emergency evacuation to the UK.
