With lots of tattoo signs and symbol trends available in the world today, celebrities seem to be rocking some fine tattoos on different parts of their bodies.
Most of these celebrities do not really have a problem showing off these various tattoos even though most Ghanaians have reservations about them in general, with many reading different meanings into it.
The word ‘tattoo’ can be traced as far as the 18th century.
It is a loanword from the Polynesian word ‘tatu’ meaning “to write”.
Tattooing has been practised across the globe since Neolithic times as evidenced by ancient art, and archaeological records.
In China, for instance, tattoos were considered a barbaric practice, and were referred to in literature as depicting bandits and folk heroes.
In some other cultures, tattoos show how a person feels about a relative or symbol.
People with tattoos are confronted with negative perceptions including being called gangsters, thieves, among others things.
As compared to other cultures, the western culture is well noted for tattoos.
But lately, tattoos seem to have gained firm grounds here in Ghana as musicians and other celebrities take up the trend of tattooing.
Celebrities like Shatta Wale, Nadia Buari, Tiffany, Afia Schwarzenegger, Andre Ayew, Vicky Zugah, among others have being spotted with some fine tattoos on their bodies.
