Customers of Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) have once again been assured of speed banking and innovation in the coming days.
Chief Executive Officer of UMB John Awuah, who reiterated the promise at a thanksgiving service, said this is part of efforts to meet the changing demands of customers in the competitive banking sphere.
Universal Merchant Bank, since its establishment in 1972 as the first merchant bank in the country, has set itself as one of the best performing banks in the country.
The bank played various roles in the acquisition of Societé General Bank and the establishment of the Ghana Stock Exchange.
The bank currently has 32 branches, 3 UMB centres for business and one private-public partnership incubator.
The white-themed thanksgiving ceremony was part of year-long activities to mark the 45th anniversary of the bank and to appreciate God for His blessings.
Mr Awuah says the next years will be characterized by investment into innovative ways of best customer service.
“Moving forward, we will continue to innovate. We will continue to provide our customers with technologically advanced products and services while enriching our customer service experience,” he assured.
The board chairperson of UMB, Elizabeth Zormelo, reiterated the commitment of the bank to supporting small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in the country.
“We have in the past 45 years successfully contributed to the development of local businesses and we will continue that,” she said.
“For us the fulfillment of impacting lives and businesses is the promise we make to our customers.”
Chairman of the National Peace Council Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante admonished staff of the bank to be responsible stewards of deposits that customers have entrusted in their care.
“Thanking God should not just end with this ceremony. Thanking God means you need to be responsible and be committed to humanity and your customers,” he cautioned.
The event was attended by both present and past staff of UMB, key management staff and top government officials.
UMB Bank also paid a courtesy visit to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, earlier.
The visit was to strengthen the bond between UMB and the Muslim community as well as to show appreciation and gratitude for their tremendous support over the years.
