We’ll provide quality technical education – Opoku-Agyemang

Running mate to the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has said that if the NDC wins this year’s elections to form the next government, the quality of technical education will be improved.

This, she said, forms part of the efforts of the NDC to transform the country through manufacturing and production since the children will be equipped with technical skills to produce materials and other items being used in the country.

She indicated that Ghanaian children will be provided with the needed resources to enable them access technical and vocational education should her party win the polls.

The former Education Minister was addressing members of the Koforidua Technical University Chapter of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) in the Eastern Region on Thursday October 9.

“Look at the chairs in this auditorium, how many of them have been done in this country?  Just look around us, how many of the things in this room including the equipment here are produced locally? who says our children cannot make these?

“So why are we surprised we don’t have jobs? Things have to change, we need to raise the level of technical education and ensure that there is good creativity  and productivity.  If the students do it and it is not good we can make it better,” she said.

She further indicated that the NDC has the track record of initiating good polices in the educational sector.

“What do we go to school for? What is the point of education?  Why is that the NDC build universities in this country? Who turned the polytechnics into universities? Certainly the NDC.

“When we were turning the polytechnics into technical universities we set  our standards,  it wasn’t a request that came from anybody  it came from the government  and we set high standards  because we  believe in technical and vocational education.”
