The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied media reports that soldiers accompanied some officials from the presidency to lock up offices of De-Eye Group at the Christianborg Castle, Osu.
“GAF wishes to state categorically that it has not deployed any soldier to the Osu Castle for the stated purpose,” a statement from GAF on Saturday said.
The activities of De-Eye Group were brought under the spotlight by an investigative documentary produced by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni.
The Group, said to be training militias for the New Patriotic Party government, is headed by Nana Wireko Addo, a former personal bodyguard of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
But after the documentary was aired on Thursday, triggering a government reaction, myjoyonline.com reported that soldiers had accompanied some officials from Jubilee House to lock up offices occupied by De-Eye Group at the former seat of government.
“Indeed no soldier has been assigned to follow any official to the former seat of Government for such an activity.
“This allegation is completely false.”
The statement signed by Colonel Emmanuel Aggrey Quarshie, the Director of Public Relations for GAF, urged the media “to be circumspect in their reportage on the GAF at all times”.
