A 30-year-old pregnant woman, Alimatu Karim, has been murdered and parts of her body cooked by a lunatic at Muramura in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The lunatic, Kofi Sammy, has also been lynched by an angry mob in the area.
Police reports said a distress call was placed to at about 12:47pm on Sunday.
The pregnant woman had left home on Saturday, May 4 to look for nuts but did not return home.
On Sunday, the lunatic was seen cooking some meat in the bush. The people in the area suspected it could be human flesh and arrested him.
The lunatic admitted killing the pregnant woman and cooked parts of her flesh.
He led the residents of the area to a pit where the dismembered body of the pregnant woman was recovered.
The angry mob lynched the lunatic and set his body on fire after they forcibly took him from the chief palace, where he was being held hostage awaiting police arrest.
The police had to intervene by quenching the fire but it was too little too late.
The dismembered body of the pregnant woman and that of the deceased suspect have been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital Mortuary at Nkawkaw for preservation and autopsy.
