Tuesday, March 7, 2023, has been declared a holiday for all school children in Ghana.

School will however resume fully on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, the Ghana Education Service announced in a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo.

Parents and guardians have therefore been advised to take note of the announcement.

“This is to enable them have some rest after preparing vigorously for the Independence Day Anniversary Parade,” the statement said, adding “Any inconvenience created is deeply regretted”.

This year’s Independence Anniversary was marked under the theme: “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose”.

President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea Bissau, who is also the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), was the Special Guest of Honour.

More than 5,000 people from across the country, including members of the diplomatic corps, the clergy, traditional rulers and other dignitaries participated in the national event at Adaklu in the Volta Region.

A total of 22 contingents from the various security agencies and 12 from the various schools in the Volta Region were on parade, aside other performances. The 66 Artillery Regiment in Ho was in charge of the march past.

In 2017, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo decided the independence celebration be held on rotational basis to open the regions to the world to boost the local economy.

The celebrations also took place in the various regions, districts and communities across the country on Monday.
