The family of Investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale, has cautioned the media and journalists to be circumspect in dealing with the gruesome murder of their colleague.
Spokesperson of the family, Ibrahim Kamilu Tahidu, is pleading with media personnel to be sensitive to the plight of the family who are still in pain.
In his view, journalists “should be wary not to glorify violence against journalists on their platforms.”
The family added that the Assin Central legislator, Kennedy Agyapong, should not be allowed to use their media platforms to desecrate the memory of their beloved son.
Mr. Ibrahim Kamilu Tahidu also warned that the family would not hesitate to ” bring legal action against any media house that continues to entertain the lies of Kennedy Agyapong, should we find a recourse in law to do so.”
He further expressed disappointment that the police has not shown any commitment in bringing finality to the case four years after Ahmed Suale’s demise.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 16, the family said “at minimum, we expect the police to look into the crime of aiding and abetting and threats of harm where there is plentiful of evidence, all of which was reported to them on a couple of occasions by Ahmed Suale.”
The statement signed by the spokesperson of the family, Ibrahim Kamilu Tahidu added that it said it would be a “misfortune” for Kennedy Agyapong, who is the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, to be voted into office as Ghana’s next president.
“By his lack of remorse and the frantic defence of his conduct, the family is doubtful that Ahmed would ever get justice under a misfortune where Kennedy Agyapong becomes the President of Ghana,” Mr. Tahidu stressed.
The family’s reaction comes after Kennedy Agyapong in a recent interview refused to apologise for his comments and actions towards the slain journalist prior to his death.
