The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced plans to deploy franchise officers across all its district operational areas beginning February 2026, as part of efforts to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.
In a statement issued on Friday, Jan. 30, ECG said the officers will be responsible for reading postpaid meters, checking the integrity of prepaid meters and distributing postpaid bills. They will also conduct spot billing using handheld devices, assist customers to pay bills through the ECG Power App or the short code *226#, and disconnect customers with accounts in arrears. No cash payments will be accepted.
The franchise officers will further be tasked with identifying and reporting illegal electricity connections and other forms of malpractice to the appropriate authorities.
Customers have been advised to verify the identity of the officers using official identification cards and signed authorisation letters bearing district contact details.
ECG said the initiative is intended to bring services closer to customers and strengthen accountability. Members of the public seeking further information have been urged to contact the ECG call centre on 0302611611 or its official social media platforms via @ECGghOfficial.
