Atta Akyea’s Fury, as 32 more Scramble for Bootie

Former lawmaker and controversial lawyer, Atta Akyea, attempted a daring maneuver to insert himself into the legal fray surrounding the cyber-gate scandal involving Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife Angela Adjei Boateng.

However, his audacious bid to join the group of lawyers representing the suspects hit a snag when it was exposed as solicitation – a serious breach in legal ethics.
Reports from the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) reveal that while four lawyers had been diligently handling the case since the suspects’ arrest, a swarm of approximately 32 prominent legal minds, many affiliated with the New Patriotic Party, vied to offer their legal services.
Leading the charge was the disgruntled Atta Akyea, who, after failing to secure an audience at EOCO, resorted to submitting a four-page statement lashing out at the anti-graft agency and the Attorney General’s department for their handling of the case.

Despite his claims of representing the suspects, official records show that Akyea is not the legal counsel on record for any of the key players in the investigation.
Desperate for attention and relevance, Atta Akyea’s intrusion into the high-profile case has raised suspicions about his true motives. Meanwhile, the real legal counsel for Kwabena Adu-Boahene, Emmanuel Dubik, has been steadfastly representing the suspects at every turn, rendering Akyea’s attempts futile.
The scandal involving the diversion of GH¢39 million by the former NSB Director-General and his wife has captured public attention, with allegations of financial impropriety tied to a lucrative cyber defense contract.

The revelations, brought to light by meticulous investigations, have led to the duo’s arrest and exposed a trail of illicit financial transactions fueling their opulent lifestyle.
The spotlight fell on former NSB Chief, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his spouse amid swirling accusations of their involvement in a massive multi-million dollar fraud scandal.
This explosive revelation, unearthed by the EOCO shock troops, has sparked ripples of disbelief across the nation, underscoring the resolute stand of President John Mahama’s administration against the dark cloud of corruption.
At the heart of the probe lies the shrouded dealings in the procurement of high-tech cyber intelligence gear by the NSB, formerly known as the Bureau of National Communication (BNC).
Allegations point fingers at Mr. Adu-Boahene, steering the country’s signal fortress since 2017, for funnelling public coffers into his private venture, BNC Communication Bureau Limited, under the guise of acquiring a “Cyber Defense System Software” from an Israeli entity.
The snoop operation unveiled a web of shadowy firms, with Advantage Solutions Limited among others, purportedly facilitating the illicit fund transfers, dragging several banking heavyweights, including Universal Merchant Bank, Fidelity Bank, and Stanbic Bank, into the mire.
The ill-gotten gains seemed to have found new homes in lucrative properties both within Ghana’s borders and beyond, leaving tongues wagging at the staggering sums siphoned off during the prior dispensation.Attorney General Dominic Ayine’s stern warnings to financial institutions against facilitating suspicious transactions further underscore the seriousness of the allegations. As the couple faces legal repercussions and scrutiny, their once-touted status has been overshadowed by a web of deceit and misconduct, signaling the beginning of a challenging legal battle ahead.

As the scandal unfolds, the once-powerful duo of Adu Boahen and Angela Boateng face a reckoning for their alleged financial misdeeds, including diverting millions into personal accounts and engaging in questionable financial transactions.

The New Republic can confirm that EOCO is hunting for more accomplices in the dastard financial crime even as two more suspects have been held in EOCO’s custody addition to Adu Boahene and his spouse for days.

With the law closing in on them, their opulent facade built on deception is crumbling, exposing a web of deceit and ambition that may lead to their undoing.
