Ghana’s first autism talent show came off on Saturday, April 14, at the Aviation Social Centre in Accra.

The project put together by the Afi Antonio Foundation in partnership with Twellium Foundation, producers of Verna mineral water, brought together stakeholders including parents of children living with autism, teachers, caregivers, students and government agencies across the country.

The event brought out the unique talents and abilities of children living with autism and served as encouragement for parents of such children never to give up on them.

Some parents who spoke to the media expressed their happiness and fulfillment in having a talent show that brings out the abilities of their children.

Mrs. Olivia Awuah, mother of a 15 year old daughter living with autism shared her impression on the event. “I have been worried for the past twelve years on how my daughter can grow up to live a productive life but thanks to Afi Antonio foundation, today I can proudly say that the future is bright for Maame Berma and the rest of children living with autism in Ghana”

Mrs. Philomena Antonio-Addo,founder of the Afi Antonio foundation expressed her gratitude to the management and staff of Verna mineral water for their  continuous support towards bridging the gap between the creative potentials of children living on the autism spectrum in Ghana and other children.

“Working with children on the spectrum gives me hope and inspiration that with the right support and environment, these children through their talents and abilities can live normal adult productive lives”, she said.

“My foundation is resolute in working with stakeholders to bring out the talents of such children. This is the beginning of our vision of setting up Ghana’s first autistic talent grooming hub and we look forward to corporate Ghana to support us in achieving this goal”, she continued.
