Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko on Saturday held Kenya’s Kariobangi Sharks to a goalless drawn game at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Kenya. It was the first leg of a Caf Confederation Cup qualifier. The Sharks had walloped Djibouti’s Solar7 9-1 to reach this stage of the qualifiers. The Porcupine Warriors, on the other hand, were kicking a ball for the first time in the competition after gaining a walkover following the Cameroonian FA’s failure to meet a deadline regarding their second club aside New Star FC. The goalless draw in Kenya gives Kotoko the needed advantage ahead…
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has confirmed that the South African Football Association (SAFA) and the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have submitted bids to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Cameroon were stripped of the rights after they were adjudged to be unprepared for the tourney. Security issues were also raised as a major source of concern for Caf. Caf, therefore, opened window for nations to bid to host the tournament, which is scheduled to start from 15 June and end on 13 July next year. In a statement on Saturday, Caf announced that Egypt, who last hosted…
Chair of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) Jean Mensa says a powerful woman should not be seen exhibiting her powers outwardly. She says a powerful woman should let her power show from within. “I don’t believe a powerful woman should wear her power,” she admonished. Mrs Mensa was speaking on Today’s Woman on TV3 on Saturday as the featured woman. This is considered as a subtle jab at her predecessor, Charlotte Osei, who was seen by some as condescending prior to the 2016 polls. She was removed by a petition from some staff of the Commission for some of the…
A group of UK schoolgirls who were sexually assaulted at gunpoint in Ghana are receiving support, police say. Police said they would do “everything possible” to ensure the offenders were brought to justice. The police statement said the group were held at gunpoint after a number of armed men entered their accommodation. A Ghanaian security guard…
Ghana’s Thomas Teye Partey could not match the achievement of Egyptian Mohamed Salah as the Liverpool forward was named the 2018 BBC African Footballer of the Year. The award is the second in succession for Salah, who plays for Liverpool FC. Aside Partey, who had helped Atletico Madrid win the UEFA Europa League in the year under review, Morocco’s Medhi Benatia and Senegal’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Sadio Mane were shortlisted for the awards. But the Pharaohs’ captain appeared to have continued where he left off in 2017 as he was crowned with the award live on radio on Friday, December…

Former President Jerry John Rawlings says the need for community vigilantism is “an absolute necessity” and “an absolute must”. To him, vigilantes protecting the environment, for instance, can help prevent random and persistent dumping of refuse on the streets. Mr Rawlings said the vigilantes will, therefore, complement the efforts of security agencies. He recommended that even before lawbreakers are handed to state security agencies, they have be “disciplined”. He, however, stressed that nobody supports thugs who parade as vigilantes like it is happening in the political circles. The former president was speaking at the Annual Thanksgiving Service of Zoomlion and…
