India has unveiled the world’s tallest statue, which cost 29.9bn rupees (£330m; $430m) to build. The 182m (600ft) high structure in the western state of Gujarat is a bronze-clad tribute to independence leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the “statue of unity” would serve as a major tourist attraction. But locals say this is as a waste of public money and that the funds could have been put to better use. The first of the 11 victims of the US shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh have now been laid to rest. Hundreds paid their respects on Tuesday at the funerals of brothers Cecil and David Rosenthal and Jerry Rabinowitz, who were killed on Saturday. World football-governing body Fifa has handed former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi a life ban from all football-related activities. The activities have to do with “administrative, sports or any other” at both national and international levels. The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has finally weighed into the recent happenings at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), condemning the action of the students. “We would urge the students to pursue their ambitions and education without violating the law,” a statement jointly signed by National President Anthony Forson Jnr and National Secretary Yaw Acheampong Boafo said. Ghana has been adjudged as host of the next World Trade Promotion Organisations (WTPO) Conference in 2020. Ghana submitted a bid to beat the September 26, 2018 deadline to be considered as host for the biennial conference. The announcement was made at the just-ended 12th conference in Paris, France. Ghana made a five-to-eight minute presentation at the conference to be considered as next hosts.
