Japan has been hit by its strongest typhoon in 25 years, causing at least six deaths and 160 injuries. Typhoon Jebi made landfall in western areas, bringing heavy rain and reports of winds up to 172km/h (107mph). In Osaka Bay it swept a tanker into a bridge and in Kyoto parts of a railway station roof came down. Officials ordered more than a million people in affected areas to evacuate their homes amid warnings of high waves, flooding and mudslides. Popular indigenous car assembling company Kantanka Automobile Company Limited has expressed shock at the swiftness with which government agreed to the proposal of German automobile company Volkswagen (VW). It said its numerous proposals to government have not seen such swiftness. Government last Thursday concluded an agreement with VW to have its assembly plant in Ghana. The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company last Friday signed the book of condolence of the late former United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, at the Accra International Conference Centre. Odame Antwi described Busumuru Annan as a peace-loving man who had Ghana at heart. Senator John McCain has been buried at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, after a small private ceremony. A military flypast was performed with the squadron one plane short, to symbolise the dead senator. Mr McCain graduated from the elite Naval Academy in 1958, later serving in Vietnam as a fighter jet pilot. Family and friends were joined by his classmates and the current midshipmen for a service at the school’s chapel. The sale of energy drinks could be banned in England to anybody under 18, amid fears they are damaging children’s health, the prime minister has said. The government has launched a public consultation on its plans to make it illegal to sell the drinks to children. Energy drinks contain high levels of sugar and caffeine and have been linked to obesity and other health issues. Ghana and China have signed eight Co-operation Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding in different sectors of their respective economies. The agreements are aimed at deepening the ties of co-operation and the bonds of friendship that exist between the two countries.
