The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) says it is working hard to restore power supply to some parts of the country affected by a “disturbance” on Monday. The “disturbance” on GRIDCo’s transmission resulted in the loss of supply to consumers in some parts of the country. In a statement issued by its Head of Public Relations, Albert Kwesi Quainoo, GRIDCo said it “is working to restore supply to consumers”. Most parts of Accra were affected but power has since been restored. It is expected that the other parts will enjoy power immediately GRIDCo finishes its work. Residents of Krowor, Ledzokuku, La, Nungua, Teshie and its environs have rescinded an earlier decision to embark on a seven-day continuous demonstration against the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL). The residents threatened to demonstrate as a result of the shutdown of the Accra Desalination Plant located at Teshie. Alternative arrangements were put in place – on Wednesdays and weekends – to serve consumers. Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana). He replaces Professor Emmanuel Gyimah-Boadi, who proceeds on retirement. A statement issued by CDD-Ghana on Monday said the appointment takes effect from Thursday, February 1. The German government has denounced experiments funded by German carmakers in which humans and monkeys reportedly inhaled diesel exhaust fumes. German media say the health impact research was done by EUGT, a body funded by Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW. Such tests could not be justified, the government said, demanding details.
