Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong has expressed joy at the ruling of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) delivered on Saturday. The Tribunal virtually upheld Ghana’s long-standing view of its maritime boundary over a new dimension tabled by La Cote d’Ivoire. Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live shortly after the judgement, Mrs Appiah-Oppong said: “It is a win for Ghana.” She had led the charge to the Germany-based international maritime court after bilateral efforts to find a solution to the dispute fell on rocks. But the change in government in 2017 saw…
Ghana and La Cote d’Ivoire have issued a joint communiqué to pledge commitment to the decision taken by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) in Germany on Saturday, September 23. Signed by Gloria Akuffo, Ghana’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, and Adama Toungara, Adviser to President Alassane Ouattara, the communiqué said: “Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana accept the decision, in accordance with the Statute of ITLOS”. The decision by the Special Chamber of ITLOS accepted Ghana’s methodology in considering its maritime boundary though it demanded it be written. In effect, La Cote d’Ivoire’s Circumstance or Angle…

The Special Chamber of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) has delivered judgement in Ghana’s favour in the maritime dispute with neighbours La Cote d’Ivoire. It has, however, directed the two nations to agree on some measures, key among them is an agreement on the delimitation of their maritime boundaries. The Tribunal observed that two countries had differing views on the starting point of their maritime borders. The Special Chamber, after years of adjudicating the case, on Saturday delivered judgement in the presence of both parties. Ghana’s delegation was led by Minister of Justice Gloria Akuffo…
Ghana’s posture in the three-year maritime dispute against La Cote d’Ivoire has been highly commended by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS). On Saturday, September 23, when the Special Chamber delivered its judgment on the case, it said since the Anglophone country was ordered in 2015 not to drill new oil discs, it has abided by that ruling. “Ghana has contributed to cooperation,” the Special Chamber asserted. The maritime border dispute began in 2014 after several efforts to reach an agreement between the two parties fell through. The over six years of bilateral discussions on an…
China has moved to limit North Korea’s oil supply and will stop buying textiles from the politically isolated nation, it said on Saturday. China is North Korea’s most important trading partner, and one of its only sources of hard currency. The ban on textiles trade will hurt Pyongyang’s income, while China’s oil exports are the country’s main source of petroleum products. The tougher stance follows North Korea’s latest nuclear test this month. The United Nations agreed fresh sanctions – including the textiles and petroleum restrictions – in response. A statement from China’s commerce ministry said restrictions on refined petroleum products…
“…and he returned to see the carcass of the lion and behold there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcass of the lion.”— Judges 14:8 [Bible] Setbacks walk into our lives when we least expect. Hard times oftentimes jab us from our blind side. Sometimes, the forces of nature seem to just be at war with us. The challenge, however, is not what happens to us but… how react to them. The negativity that tries to drown us is not as important as the positivity that we rely on to stay afloat! Back in our Maths class…
Bill Gates is a lot luckier than you might realise. He may be a very talented man who worked his way up from college dropout to the top spot on the list of the world’s richest people. But his extreme success perhaps tells us more about the importance of circumstances beyond his control than it does about how skill and perseverance are rewarded. We often fall for the idea that the exceptional performers are the most skilled or talented. But this is flawed. Exceptional performances tend to occur in exceptional circumstances. Top performers are often the luckiest people, who have…
Members of Asomdwee Ne Bohye Ministries on Thursday embarked on a walk in an effort to keep fit. Themed ‘Keeping Fit For Christ’, members walked over 4kilometers from Ritz Junction on the Accra-Aburi highway to Ablor-Adjei, where the central branch is located. Amidst drumming and dancing, the walk attracted onlookers, some of whom joined in the procession to kick-start the Founder’s Day holiday. After the almost 2-hour fitness walk, members gathered at the church auditorium for a quiz contest with questions drawn from the history of the church. Members were also exhorted by founder and spiritual leader, Prophetess Cecilia Akua…
