Pictures have emerged showing the mobile phone which is believed to have saved the life of a Gwynedd woman badly injured in the Manchester bombing. Lisa Bridgett, of Pwllheli, had been using the phone after the Ariana Grande concert on Monday when the explosion caused a steel nut to hit her. She lost a middle finger before the nut went through her phone and her cheek, ending up lodged in her nose. Her husband said the phone probably diverted and slowed down the nut. The bomb attack at the Manchester Arena killed 22 people and injured a further 64. Eight…
Ghana’s Black Starlets will face the Eaglets of Mali in Sunday’s final of the 2017 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations. Mali booked a ticket to their second consecutive final after beating Guinea 2-0 on penalties on Wednesday. The two neighbouring nations had played 0-0 in full regulation time. Ghana had earlier beaten Niger 6-5 on penalties after also playing a goalless draw in full regulation time. Tiger Woods says he “hasn’t felt this good in years” after having a fourth operation on his back, but added he will not “hurry” to return to golf. America’s 14-time major champion, 41, came back after 15 months out injured in December, but has not played since his back problems recurred in February. Plans to compete at Augusta in April – on the 20th anniversary of his first Masters win – had to be abandoned. “I want to play professional golf again but I’m not looking ahead,” he said. “I can’t twist for another two and a half to three…
Manchester City and Manchester United have jointly pledged £1m to an emergency fund set up to support the victims of Monday’s attack in the city. The fund was set up in the wake of the suicide bomb attack at Manchester Arena which killed 22 people and injured 64. “It is right that we present a unified response to this tragedy,” said Ed Woodward, United’s executive chairman. “We have been humbled by the strength and solidarity shown by Manchester,” said City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak. “The hope of both our clubs is that our donation will go some small way to…
Ghana and Sierra Leone have agreed to ratify the agreement for co-operation between their two countries, so as to provide the legal framework for addressing their trade and investment concerns. Despite the good relations that exist between the two countries, there is no framework for co-operation to guide these relations, with this development hampering the deepening of bilateral ties and co-operation amongst the two countries. To this end, President Akufo-Addo has assured that “I will pursue this matter with my Parliament to ensure the ratification of this Agreement”, an agreement which was signed between the two countries on 19th December,…

Niger had held the Starlets to a goalless draw in regulation time at Stade de Port-Gentil after they were pinned to their half for almost the entire duration of the game. Gabriel Leveh had the early opportunity of the game but failed to beat Nigerien goalie Moussa Hima, who put up a sterling performance on the day, creating a stumbling block between his goal and the Starlets’ attack. Leading goalscorer Eric Ayiah also came close to…
I sent e-mails to two prominent journalists to do a story about the frustrations of the Ghanaian passport holder in travelling within Africa and the world. I thought they would tell my story for me. I have waited for weeks but I have not received even the courtesy of acknowledgement of mail. Remembering the citizen and not spectator call by our strong-willed President, I thought I should write my own story and see if someone may listen and act on it sooner on behalf of the hundreds of Ghanaians who may be going through comparable situation. I am a citizen…
