Liverpool has officially launched a bid to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with a team of advisers appointed to spearhead the project. The bid also sets out the city’s interest in hosting the event in 2022, following Durban’s withdrawal in March. Sports executive Brian Barwick will chair the bid alongside teams employed to design branding and plan logistics. Liverpool City Council said it could potentially involve Everton’s planned new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock. The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) chaired by Ishmael Ashitey, the regional minister, is scheduled to hold a crunch meeting Wednesday morning following fresh clashes at Agbogbloshie, a suburb of Accra. Taiwan’s parliament has approved a bill banning the slaughter of cats and dogs for human consumption. The bill also prohibits those using a car or motorbike from pulling their pets alongside them on a lead as they travel. Anyone caught breaching the order faces a large fine or up to two years in prison – and having their names and photographs made public.
