President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given his assent to the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, 2019, which bans acts of vigilantism in Ghana, disbands vigilante groups, including political party vigilante groups and land guards. Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, is expected to be summoned before parliament by the minority to answer questions on why government has abandoned the construction of some district hospitals in the Ashanti Region. A 35-year-old woman, who could not pay a 1,200-cedi fine for stealing a mobile phone and had to spend three of five years in jail in the Northern Region, has been rescued by a philanthropist. Teni Yisigna in 2016 stole an iPhone from her boyfriend of five months, which she sold for 150 cedis to buy food for her ‘hungry’ 10-year-old son and herself. The Electoral Commission will from Tuesday, September 10 exhibit the voters register at all the 30,702 polling stations across the country to update the electoral roll ahead of the district level elections and the referendum. The exhibition which will end on September 17, will start from 7:00 a.m to 6:00p.m each day, including Saturday and Sunday. Nissan chief executive Hiroto Saikawa will step down next week as the carmaker grapples with an executive pay scandal. The announcement followed a meeting of the carmaker’s board on Monday. Earlier, Mr Saikawa told Japanese media he was “keen to pass the torch” when asked if he was preparing to resign.
