Stakes are high at the ongoing National Delegates Conference of the Tertiary Educational Workers Union (TEWU) in Kumasi over the alleged autocratic leadership of Chairman Dr. Peter Kwaku Lumor. The entire results of 48,855 candidates who sat for this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have been withheld over various malpractices, the West African Examination Council has revealed. The affected candidates, representing 14.12 per cent of the total candidates who wrote the exams, were said to have taken to the examination halls, foreign materials such as prepared notes, printed material and mobile phones. The National Tripartite Committee (NTC) has announced an increase in the National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW) to GH¢11.82. The new NDMW is an 11 per cent increase over the from GH¢10.65 figure for 2019. It will take effect from January 1, 2020. The NDMW is the least wage any employer in the country can pay a worker in a day. Announcing the increase in Accra, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, also stated that the NTC had agreed that the new NDMW should be tax-exempt. He advised all establishments, institutions and organisations to adjust their wages…

A research and advocacy think-tank has asked the Ministry of Education to scrap the use of scratch card by BECE and WASSCE candidates in accessing their results, describing the sale of the cards as exploitative. Since 2004, results of students who sit for WAEC examinations are first released online before hardcopies are dispatched to the various schools for candidates to pick them up. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has formally commissioned the Awoamefia of the Anlo State, Togbe Sri III to solely mediate in the Bimbilla chieftaincy dispute in the Northern region. Suspended chief executive of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Adjenim Boateng Adjei has been charged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor for allegedly selling government contracts.
