Beneficiaries of the AKER Energy-GNPC Scholars Program will be increased from 150 to 200 students for the 2019/20 academic year. The increase is to expand the scope of the scholarship programme to cover more brilliant but needy students in the six coastal districts of the Western Region. The AKER Energy-GNPC Scholars Program was instituted in 2012 to provide scholarship to students whose attainment of secondary school education had become a challenge due to the inability of their parents or guardians to provide funds. A collaborative effort of both the Savannah and North East Regional Police Commands has led to the arrest of two persons suspected to have murdered two persons in Lukula last Saturday, August 17. The two arrested, Abdul Rauf and Amidu Fuseini, were picked up in the early hours of Sunday at Sandema in the Upper East Region, where they were hiding. Four suspected armed robbers are on the run after allegedly shooting a Mobile Money vendor at Vitting, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, August 18, saw the motor-riding robbers shoot the victim, making away with his cash and other items. An Iranian ship held by Gibraltar since July on suspicion of transporting oil to Syria has left port. Marine tracking shows the tanker moving east into the Mediterranean and lists Kalamata in Greece as the destination.
