Vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has reaffirmed government’s determination to fulfil the campaign pledge of facilitating year round farming in the northern regions through the construction of dams under the ‘One Village One Dam’ programme. Ghana will for the second consecutive time take part in the United Nations simulation World Youth Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa from September 30 to October 2, 2019. The forum, predominantly of young people across the globe, will among other things discuss and promote quality education in accordance with the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) in its second edition. Ghana Cocoa Board will raise $1.3 billion in syndicated loans for its operations in the 2019/2020 season, the Minister of Finance Mr Ken Ofori-Atta announced in Parliament on Monday. In addition to the annual syndicated loan of US$ 1.3 billion, COCOBOD has initiated processes with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to raise additional US$600 million, seven-year long term facility for the implementation of Productivity Enhancement Programmes (PEPs) and other initiatives. The programmes include, hand pollination/pruning of cocoa farms, rehabilitation of diseased and over-aged farms, irrigation in dry seasons, and farmer database, among others. The entire results of 48,855 candidates who sat for this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have been withheld over various malpractices, the West African Examination Council has revealed. The affected candidates, representing 14.12 per cent of the total candidates who wrote the exams, were said to have taken to the examination halls, foreign materials such as prepared notes, printed material and mobile phones. Some of them were also found to have colluded with others and planned cheating with the connivance of some supervisors and school authorities.
