Candidates who promise to organise regular community meetings to address the concerns of constituents are mostly preferred, according to a research conducted by Dr George K. Ofosu, an Associate of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana). The study revealed that candidates who promise to sometimes or always help constituents in dealing with the government bureaucracy or finding state employment were more likely to be voted for, compared to those who would hardly do so. Vice President of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Robert Sabbah has conceded that the union failed in ensuring that every commercial vehicle has dustbin. The GPRTU in March 2015 launched a program in Koforidua to provide members with dustbins to help improve sanitation in the country. The National Chairman of the union at the time, Alhaji Yaw Manu, had promised to distribute dustbins to every branch of the union across the country. Governance expert, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae has said the office of the Inspector General of Police should have a system that allows the IGP to have a defined tenure of office. According to him, the lack of a guaranteed tenure hinders the effective implementation of reforms and policies, and this affects the work of the police. The US Supreme Court has said that President Donald Trump can use $2.5bn (£2bn) of Pentagon funds for a section of wall on the southern border. The court ruled by five votes to four to block a ruling by a federal judge in California that barred the president from spending the money on the wall. The police in Navrongo have intercepted an articulated truck loaded with 1,000 bags of fertilizer being smuggled to neighboring Burkina Faso following a tip off by the Bureau of National Investigations. The bags, each weighing 50kg meant for government’s flagship programme, Planting for Food and Jobs, were being offloaded onto another truck for diversion on Thursday night but luck eluded the suspected criminals.
