Governance expert Dr. Eric Oduro Osae says Ghana’s inability to ensure that there is strict security at its border posts makes room for criminals to easily get into the country. According to him, the rate at which some foreign nationals are involved in criminal activities in the country is alarming. Dr. Oduro Osae made this observation on TV3’s The Key Points on Saturday on discussions following the arrest of some three Nigerians who are suspected to have been involved in kidnapping two Canadian girls who were later rescued by security forces. Addressing the issue, Dr. Oduro Osae underscored the need…
Thousands of people protested in Hong Kong on Sunday against a controversial extradition bill, despite a government decision to suspend the bill. The new law, which would have allowed extradition from Hong Kong to mainland China, prompted hundreds of thousands to demonstrate in the past week. Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam said on Saturday that the plans had been “suspended” for the time being. But protest leaders demanded that the bill was scrapped. Some have called on Ms Lam to resign over the unrest. By early Sunday afternoon, large crowds had gathered in the city’s Victoria Square, many wearing…

The Aka tribesmen in the Central African Republic often look after their young children while the mothers are out hunting. They soothe, clean and play with their babies, and spend more time holding them than fathers in any other society. Their devotion has earned them the title of “the world’s best dads” from online commentators – which is somewhat ironic given that the Aka are strictly egalitarian and shun rankings. Still, it shows just how dramatically the wider view of being a “good father” has changed over time. Today, many dads are celebrated for being sensitive, caring and hands-on. A…
The Executive Secretary of the Micro-credit Association of Ghana, Ebenezer Quartey, has cautioned the outstanding 31 Micro-credit companies to comply with the laws regulating their operations in the country. He stressed that Micro-credit companies are money-lending companies and not “susu” collecting companies. Mr. Quartey said Micro-credit companies exist to provide credit to economically deprived individuals and businesses in a regulated and market-driven environment to improve standard of living. “Micro-finance and Micro-Credit provides employment for a section of unemployed Ghanaians, and it is the future of the country,” he told Onua FM’s Bright Asempa in an interview on Friday, June 14.…
