Tribeless was a 2017 production which was re-run in 2018. We are here in 2019 and we have…
The little steps African countries are taking in transitioning to low emissions pathway are what will see the continent achieve climate compliance by 2030, as called for in the Paris Climate Agreement, says Dr. Richard Munang, UN Environment Africa Regional Climate Change Coordinator. He believes countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in the areas of agriculture, energy and forestry can be combined to maximize bottom line emissions reduction and amplify socioeconomic benefits of income creation and job opportunities in ancillary sectors popular with engaging the youth, especially ICT. Dr. Munang was addressing a peer learning and closeout meeting of the EU-UNEP…
An attempt to make Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg step down as the company’s chairman has failed. At the company’s annual general meeting on Thursday, shareholders had the opportunity to vote on Mr Zuckerberg’s leadership. Mr Zuckerberg is both Facebook’s chief executive and the chairman of its board of directors. He controls about 60% of the voting power and would only have lost if he voted against himself. Some investors have called for him to step down as chairman as they believe this would help him focus on running the company. One of those investors is Trillium Asset Management, which owns…
Ghana’s Energy Ministry has started a discussion with its Ivorian counterpart on the possibility of the two countries building a gas pipeline. The project conceived by Ghana’s Energy Ministry is part of efforts to ensure stable power in the two countries. The Energy Ministry has tabled a proposal to extend the Ghana part of the Natural Gas Transmission Network System (NGTS) from its gas processing facility at Atuabo in the Ellembelle District – along the western border of Ghana – to border town Sringabo in Ivory Coast. The project also considers the possibility for business interests along the route of…
Sudanese security forces have attacked a pro-democracy protest outside the military headquarters in the capital, Khartoum, activists say. Medical sources say at least eight people have been killed, with reports of live ammunition being used. Sudan has been governed by a Transitional Military Council (TMC) since President Omar al-Bashir was overthrown in a coup in April. The council later denied using force to break up the main protest site. “Sudanese forces did not disperse the sit-in outside the army headquarters by force, but rather targeted a nearby area which has become a threat to the safety of citizens,” TMC spokesman…
Winner of the 2019 TV3’s Talented Kidz reality show, Nakeeyat Sam Dramani has thrown a challenge to organizers of the show to consider having an adult version of the show, what she referred to as “Talented Adults”. The 7-year-old poet and child advocate made the plea to the judges of the show – Paulina Oduro and Uncle Benedict – while showing appreciation to Ghanaians, TV3 and those who supported her to emerge victorious. “Uncle Benedict and Aunty Paulina, I want you to do talented adults”, she requested. Police personnel manning Ghana’s borders to Burkina Faso at Hamile in the Upper West Region on Sunday arrested a Burkinabe with a loaded handgun at the Hamile Roman Catholic Church. The suspect, 55-year-old, was arrested at around 8 am, after members of the church raised alarm about his suspicious behaviour during the church service. This arrest comes amid the increased threat of terror attacks at churches in the sub-region. Four persons were killed in an attack on a Catholic Church in northern Burkina Faso late May, marking the latest in a string of assaults on Christian places of worship. There…
Former President Jerry John Rawlings has in a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang, stated that the United States is wary of the growing economic power of China hence the heightened trade war with the Asian giant. “The bullish and military behaviour of the West came as no surprise because it was obvious it was going to lose the technological domination of the world,” he said. Former President Rawlings said in the midst of that bullish behaviour the United States then unleashed the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) on former FIFA President, Sepp Blatter. The former…
