Local governmence expert professor Kwamena Ahwoi has described as unnecessary, president Nana Akufo-Addo’s call for the two major political parties in the country to meet to dialogue on disbanding their various ‘militia’ groups. Prof Ahwoi argued both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party did not consult each other in setting up their various groups, hence there is no need for them to meet and dialogue on how to disband their militia groups. “I don’t think the meeting is necessary. The parties by themselves must abolish the vigilante groups,” he told TV3 last Saturday, adding “when you were…

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has cautioned government against rushing to implement the proposed standards-based curriculum until implementers and stakeholders have been thoroughly sensitised. This is because, if properly implemented, the new curriculum would go a long way to address the shortfalls in the educational system and eliminate the “chew and pour” method, which had characterised the country’s educational system. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo–Addo in his state of the nation address on Thursday February 21, 2019 announced that Ghana would in September 2019, roll out a new standards-based curriculum from kindergarten to Class six in primary schools…
R Kelly has pleaded not guilty to 10 charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against four women, three of whom were minors at the time. The 52-year-old turned himself in to authorities on Friday after an arrest warrant was issued. He has faced decades of sexual abuse claims without being convicted, and has denied all previous allegations. His court appearance and plea comes weeks after the documentary series Surviving R Kelly aired. It contained allegations of abuse from many women…
Labour has said it is prepared to back another EU referendum to prevent a “damaging Tory Brexit”. Jeremy Corbyn is to tell Labour MPs later that the party will move to back another vote if their own proposed Brexit deal is rejected on Wednesday. The BBC’s Vicky Young said it was a highly “significant” development as Mr Corbyn has previously been “lukewarm” about the idea of another vote. Theresa May is under growing pressure to delay the 29 March Brexit date. Labour are not yet making clear what their proposed referendum would be on. When asked to clarify this, a…
