A two-hour late afternoon downpour Monday has left houses, shops and schools flooded, and people stranded in parts of Koforidua in the Eastern Region. Schools, households and shops at the central business district were the hardest hit by the floods caused by the downpour that started at about 3:30pm, causing all business activities to come to a halt. Other affected areas were Nsukwao, Zongo, Highways and their environs which are known as flood prone arrears in the Koforidua township. Local Government and Rural Development Minister Hajia Alima Mahama has commended Zoomlion Ghana Limited for its latest move to tackle the country’s sanitation problem with the unveiling of mechanized street sweepers. The Ghana National Gas Company Limited says it is on course in meeting the June deadline for works on the relocation of the Karpowership plant from Tema in Greater Accra to the Sekondi Naval Base in the Western Region. Government resolved to move the 470 megawatts Karpowership plant to the naval base to enable operators draw natural gas from Ghana Gas to power the plant, which currently runs on heavy fuel Oil HFO and costs the country about 9 million dollars monthly. Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Samuel Nartey George has accused the Commander of the Police SWAT team DSP Samuel Azugu of fabricating stories to malign him.
