A middle-aged woman whose name has been given as Alice allegedly inflicted knife wound on her 10 year old daughter for allegedly stealing GHȻ5.00. A school mate of the victim was said to have reported to the girl’s mother that she stole money from her bag on Thursday, February 14. The number of extremely poor Nigerians has risen to 91.6 million, according to the World Poverty Clock.[/caption] This implies that virtually half of Nigeria’s population now lives in extreme poverty. The World Poverty Clock had named Nigeria the poverty capital of the world last June when it revealed that Nigeria had 87 million people living in poverty. The latest figure shows that an additional four million Nigerians have since fallen under the poverty line. The European Commission (EC) has added Ghana to a list of 23 countries with strategic deficiencies in their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing frameworks. Ghana and her West African neighbour Nigeria were added to an already existing blacklist of 16 countries announced by the EC in a press release on February 13. The listing does not entail any type of sanctions, restrictions on trade relations or impediment to development aid; but requires banks and obliged entities to apply enhanced vigilance measures on transactions involving these countries. The Haatso branches of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) and the Cross Road Community Church Ministries (CRCCM) have been ordered by the Accra High Court to pay damages of GH¢40,000 (GH¢20,000 each) to two residents of the area for excessive noise-making and for being a nuisance.
