Zimbabwe’s cabinet has promised to repeal a controversial law long used to suppress the media. The Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act has been the leading weapon in stifling media freedom. During former President Robert Mugabe’s rule it was used to arrest journalists and shut down newspapers. It places restrictions on media ownership and who can be employed as a journalist. The Government of Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Republic of Germany to establish a German-Ghanaian Business Council. Two police officers, Constable Amartey Godfred and Constable Boateng Lotis, have reportedly sustained gunshot wounds from an unidentified person suspected to be a member of two feuding chieftaincy gates at Atulbabisi in Bolgatanga of the Upper East Region.
