Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) Dr. Wilberforce Dzisah, who was forced to proceed on his annual leave, is alleged to have been removing important documents that could aid in on-going investigations into financial malfeasance under his leadership. A letter by the governing council of the Institute to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) claimed Mr. Dzisah has been using his driver to “remove material (files and equipment) out of his office” at odd hours. Inflation rate for January 2018 dropped by 1.5% from the 11.8% recorded in December last year to was 10.3%. Acting government statistician, Dr. Baah Wadieh, attributed the decrease to a base-drift effect associated with fall in prices of major food and non-food items, especially those produced locally. “There were reduction in the inflation rates in areas such as food and non-food inflation, health inflation rate and transport,” he indicated. Staff of the six polytechnics converted into technical universities are demanding the Ministry of Education withdraws from Parliament, the technical universities amendment bill of 2017. According to them, sections 24, 26, 27 and 42 of Technical University Act 922 (2016) which are up for amendment would grant powers to the National Council for Tertiary Education to carry out the very functions being performed by the governing council of the technical universities. Residents of Assin Bosomadwe, a farming community in the Assin South District of the Central Region who fall sick have to wait for weeks in every month in order to access good and affordable healthcare. This is because the only Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound can only be accessed two times in a month. Assin Bosomadwe has a population of about five thousand. Policy think-tank IMANI Ghana says former Attorney General Martin Amidu who was vetted by parliament Tuesday for the Office of the Special Prosecutor, has given a good account of himself as the best person for the job. Two of the three suspects, who escaped from lawful custody at the Kwabenya Police station, were on Tuesday sentenced to 30 months imprisonment each by an Accra Circuit Court. The two, Prince Osei and Atta Kwadwo, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, and escape from lawful custody. They are to spend 30 months each on each count, and both counts are to run concurrently. The third accused, Kofi Darko, who was also charged with the same offences, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
