The lives of patients requiring emergency transportation from one health facility to the other in the Western Region are in danger as the only ambulance serving the region has been involved in an accident. Stakeholders fear the situation could negatively affect healthcare delivery in the region if immediate steps are not taken to provide ambulances in health facilities in the area. The Northern Regional Security Council has launched a security campaign dubbed ‘Operation Calm Life’ to deal with issues of security in the Northern Region. The launch took place in the regional capital, Tamale, where officers from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service patrolled all major streets within the metropolis. The Southern Volta Premix Coordinator, Elikem Sewordor, who was accused of diverting premix fuel meant for fishermen in the region to Togo, has been promoted to the Volta Premix Fuel Board. E-cigarettes should be available on prescription, according to Public Health England (PHE). The agency wants them to be prescribed on the NHS within the next few years because of how successful they have been in helping people give up smoking. An independent review of the latest evidence, published by PHE, suggests at least 20,000 people a year are quitting with the help of e-cigarettes. The Ministry of Health has received financial clearance to recruit 4,000 private medical practitioners to work in public health facilities in the country. Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Robert Cudjoe, who revealed this to TV3’s Daniel Opoku on Monday, said “…the possibility that these people will be engaged in the next few months I believe is there”.
