An anti-graft group has dragged CHRAJ to the Supreme Court for overstepping its bounds in the 2.25 billion-dollar bond case in which the finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta is accused of conflict of interest. The group, Dynamic Youth Movement of Ghana (DYMOG) is claiming CHRAJ in determining a petition on the controversial bond, made some serious pronouncements, which in its view, contravenes aspects of the 1992 constitution. Pressure group, OccupyGhana has threatened to go to court if the Births and Deaths Registry does not reverse its discriminatory stance against registration of some local names. The government agency has up to 30 days from Friday, January 26 to correct the “illegality” or face OccupyGhana in court. Residents in the South African city of Cape Town have been warned to “save water as if your life depends on it” to avoid the supply being shut off. A severe drought has forced the city’s municipality to limit consumption to 50 litres (11 gallons) per person per day. At least 39 people have been killed and more than 70 injured in a fire at a hospital in South Korea. The blaze is thought to have started in the emergency room at Sejong Hospital in the south-eastern city of Miryang. About 200 patients were inside the building and an adjoining nursing home at the time. Smokers need to quit cigarettes rather than cut back on them to significantly lower their risk of heart disease and stroke, a large BMJ study suggests. People who smoked even one cigarette a day were still about 50% more likely to develop heart disease and 30% more likely to have a stroke than people who had never smoked, researchers said.
