The High Court in Winneba has found the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Professor Mawutor Avoke, and the school’s Finance Officer, Dr Theophilus Senyo Ackorlie, guilty of procurement and other financial irregularities. The court subsequently ordered the retrieval of all monies paid to the contractors that worked on the North Campus roads and a forensic audit of the project. It also awarded GHc 8,000 in damages against the University. A train and a school bus have collided near Perpignan in southern France, leaving at least four children dead and many other people injured. Twenty people were injured and 10 of them were in a critical condition, after the crash on a level crossing between Millas and Saint-Féliu-d’Amont. The bus had picked up pupils, aged between 13 and 17, from a nearby secondary school before it was hit. Pictures from the scene showed the bus split in two by the force of the crash. The Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) branch in Chicago has warned that some proposed amendments of the party’s constitution will affect its membership. Richard Ahiagbah said the amendment that sought to prevent Ghanaians with dual citizenship from contesting for positions in the party will cut some people away from the party. The Accra Region Police Command commenced investigations into a police corporal who allegedly has been assisting armed robbers with guns for operations. Apart from supplying guns to the robbers, Corporal Raymond Amegashie of the Tema Region SWAT team, was said to be a participant of some of the robbery operations. The 35-year-old Cpl. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly ( AMA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Accra Symphony Orchestra (ASO) to position the latter as the City’s Orchestra and cultural ambassador. More than 271 people have died in Accra through road accident between January and November this year, statistics from the MTTD has revealed. This figure has seen a dramatic increase by 58 deaths from that of last year. The largest ever powership in the world, Osman Khan, was on Thursday inaugurated at the Tema Fishing Harbour to supply reliable and uninterrupted electricity to Ghanaians. The karpowership has the capacity to generate 470 megawatts of power. Deputy Minister of Energy, Joseph Cudjoe, revealed the powership replaces the 225 megawatts powership, Karadeniz Powership Aysegul Sultan, TV3’s Ebenezer Agyekum reported.
