South Africa’s governing African National Congress (ANC) is preparing to choose a new party leader to succeed President Jacob Zuma. The main candidates are the current deputy president, Cyril Ramaphosa, and former cabinet minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, President Zuma’s ex-wife. Aggrieved New Patriotic Party polling station executives in the Ellembelle constituency of the Western Region stormed the residence of the constituency chairman Friday to demand original copy of their voters’ register. The executives accused the chairman, Samuel Akainyah, of withholding registration forms to ensure that only his supporters register for the party’s incoming internal elections. The year promises to be particularly busy with 10 competitions totalling more than one hundred fifteen-a-side and sevens rugby matches and up to 32 participating countries. The National Gaming Commission has closed down two betting centres in Tamale in the Northern Region in a clampdown exercises to rid the system of unlincenced entities operating gamin businesses. A judgment by the High Court in Winneba, which found the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education (UEW), Professor Mawutor Avoke, and the school’s Finance Officer, Dr. Theophilus Senyo Akorli, guilty of procurement and other financial irregularities has been ridiculed.
