At the 4th edition of the Ghana Oil and Gas Awards, GOIL was honoured with the award of Oil Marketing Company of the Year, while “Exemplary Leadership Award for Policy Initiative in the Petroleum Sector was conferred on its Group Chief Executive and Managing Director, Mr. Patrick Akorli. The office of former President Jerry John Rawlings says the upcoming 31st December Revolution to be staged in Ho is opened to all including former President John Mahama. At least one student of the Bawku Senior High Technical School has been confirmed dead following what is believe to be an outbreak of meningitis in the school. Five more students have been admitted at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital on Wednesday. Doctors at the hospital confirmed to TV3’s Upper East regional correspondent, Rabiu Tanko Mohammed, that meningitis has been identified as the cause of death of a third year student of the school. The Founder of Africa Literacy Development Initiative (ALDI), Victoria Michaels says literacy development should be at the heart of societal governance, education and skills acquisition. The National Service Secretariat has organized a youth entrepreneurship, innovation and technology workshop to tackle the high unemployment rate. Speakers from the MIT-Ghana Regional Entrepreneurs Accelerated Programme (REAP), Africa Harvard Study Group and scientists from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and Harvard University encouraged teeming youth to venture into entrepreneurship. An articulated truck driver lost his life on Tuesday December 12 at a quarry site belonging to the General Development Company (GDC) at Essipong, in the Western region, when he was ran over by his own vehicle. The driver whose name has been given as Isaac Mensah, 43, had gone to the site to buy chippings around 2:00pm on that day. A 40-year-old woman has been shot dead at Alulani, a community in the Nanumba district of the Northern Region. The body of Alhassan Rahinatu was found at her residence following gunshots in the area on Tuesday evening. A senior lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, in the Central Region, Dr. Ahmed Jinapor has advised the government to move away from asking people to proceed on leave prematurely. Dr. Jinapor said when the government took over about a year ago, people were asked to step aside and almost a year on, people are still being asked to step aside which is worrying. The fate of the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Asiama, is uncertain, as his legal advisor says the government is pushing for his exit from the central bank. His legal team is yet to begin discussions over a negotiated package for him.
